    What is the difference between LD79 and LGD2006?
    LD79 is an older local datum behind the paper maps and oil work, while LGD2006 is a modern geodetic frame tied to the global frames and better suited to new work. They differ by several metres, so mixing them without a transformation is not safe.
    Which UTM zone is Tripoli in?
    Tripoli, near longitude 13 degrees east, sits in zone 33N. The country as a whole runs from zone 32 in the west to zone 35 in the east, so Benghazi and Tobruk fall in higher zones.
    Why does GPS disagree with an old LD79 sheet?
