Coordinate systems in Morocco: quick reference
Survey and mapping in Morocco rest on the Merchich datum (EPSG:4261), the classic geodetic frame that covered the kingdom through a series of longitudinal belts rather than UTM zones. The Nord Maroc belt (EPSG:26191) covers the north, where Rabat, Casablanca and Fez lie.
South of that belt comes Sud Maroc (EPSG:26192) for the centre and south, then Sahara Sud (EPSG:26194) for the southern desert provinces. This division into successive belts is what distinguishes the Moroccan grid, so choosing the wrong belt shifts a point by hundreds of kilometres, not merely metres.
Rabat, near longitude 6.8 degrees west, falls within the Nord Maroc belt. The converter below opens on a Rabat sample point and lists the Moroccan systems first, computing the value in every belt or system that actually covers your point, with an explicit accuracy badge.
