    Topographic and cadastral mapping in Sudan has historically rested on the Adindan datum (EPSG:4201), a regional frame whose origin traces to arc-of-latitude work along the Nile valley that extended across Sudan and neighbouring African states. Because Adindan is a classical datum on the Clarke 1880 ellipsoid, its agreement with WGS84 is only about ±3 metres — a badge we surface honestly on every conversion.

    Sudan spans three UTM zones — 35, 36 and 37 — so the common office error is the zone number, not just the datum: Khartoum at about 32.6°E falls in zone 36 (EPSG:20136), western Darfur in zone 35 (EPSG:20135), and the Red Sea east in zone 37. Alongside Adindan, the heritage Massawa datum appears in zone 37 (EPSG:26237) on some older coastal sheets.
