Which formats can I view?

The viewer renders six geometry formats: GeoJSON, KML, KMZ, GPX, DXF and Shapefile (as a ZIP bundling .shp/.dbf/.prj). CSV and Excel files need manual column mapping, so use the file converter for those instead.

Are my files uploaded?

No. All reading, reprojection and measurement happen entirely in your browser; neither the file nor its coordinates are sent to any server. We only record an anonymous work-area tally after you consent to tracking.

How is the coordinate system detected?

For Shapefiles the CRS is read from the bundled .prj file (WKT). KML, KMZ, GPX and GeoJSON are WGS 84 by specification (GPS longitude/latitude). Every feature is then reprojected to WGS 84 for the map.

What happens when I click a feature?

A panel shows the feature’s name and an attribute table (fields and values), plus a rigorous geodesic measurement: total length for lines, and area plus perimeter for polygons — computed on the WGS 84 ellipsoid with Karney’s algorithm.

What are the file limits?

Accepted Answer

Up to 50 MB per file, 50,000 features, and 2 million vertices, since everything runs on the browser’s main thread. If your file exceeds these, split it or simplify the geometry and retry.
